Dear Visitor,
FLU VACCINE NOW IN STOCK
The 2016/17 flu vaccine has just arrived. This is recommended for everybody over the age of 65, all pregnant women and anybody with a chronic illness such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma, renal disease, liver disease, etc. It is also recommended that carers such doctors, nurses, healthcare workers in hospitals and medical personnel be vaccinated. This includes clinical staff such as secretaries and administrators. Other people who may consider getting the vaccine are key personnel and sports people who cannot afford to take time off work with influenza.
The flu vaccine is safe and extremely effective. However it does not protect you against the common cold and other viral and respiratory infections. It only protects you against the influenza virus. Serious reactions are extremely rare but some people may develop soreness in the injection site or a mild fever for a day or two after the vaccine. The flu vaccine cannot give you the flu.
CERVICAL CANCER VACCINE
Gardasil is a vaccine to protect young woman against the human papillomavirus (HPV) which can sometimes put women at risk of developing cervical cancer and genital warts. It is recommended for all girls and is usually given when they are around twelve years old. It is usually given by a two-dose schedule separated by six months. It is available free of charge through the public health services and is normally administered in school after obtaining parental consent. Boys can also be vaccinated against this virus which can protect them against genital warts and certain cancers such as anal cancer. However, the vaccine is not available free of charge for boys. It can be purchased and administered by the doctors or nurses in The Ashe Street Clinic, if required. Gardasil is considered a very safe vaccine. All the doctors and nurses who are working in The Ashe Street Clinic, recommend the vaccine for young girls and have vaccinated their own families with this vaccine, when required.
